Shedding the Stigma Surrounding Cosmetic Surgery

I'm on a personal mission to get rid of the stigma that still surrounds cosmetic surgery in many regions. Why am I on this mission? A small surgery changed my life, and I have never regretted it. I was a very shy child with little confidence due to my protruding ears. It sounds like such a small problem to many people, but it affected me and my self esteem greatly. I saved up in high school while working a part-time job, and as soon as I could afford it, I got my parents to agree to let me have my ears "pinned back" when I was 16. My confidence skyrocketed immediately, and I finally began enjoying life for the first time. I want to help others facing similar problems know that they are not alone, and I hope I can touch many lives with my new blog!

Some Things To Know About Botox

Blog

There are many people who wonder if they should get Botox. There are so many benefits to getting Botox done, which is why it is so popular. Here are some things that you should know about it.

What Is Botox and How Is It Done?

Botox is short for a toxin that is known for helping the muscle contract. It actually is a sister to the botulism toxin, which can be fatal and dangerous if it gets into the body in large amounts. It will cause the person to have a condition called lockjaw, which is where all of the muscles become rigid. However, the Botox toxin is slightly different in chemical makeup than the toxin in botulism, and in very small, concentrated doses it can be a great way to pull the skin and muscles in specific places.

When you get Botox, a licensed medical professional will take the toxin in the form of a shot and will inject it into areas of your face and body that need tightening. The toxin doesn't permanently stay in the skin and only lasts for about 3 months. So if you like the results of the Botox, you can continue to get it injected over and over again every couple months. If it wasn't something you liked, then you have the assurance that it is only temporary.

Where Should I Use Botox?

The placement of the Botox will be up to you. Usually people get it around the eyes and forehead, since that seems to be a place where people experience the most wrinkles. However, you can also get it around the mouth, neck, and really anywhere on the body. In fact, you can get Botox injected in the underarm right by the sweat gland. This is a treatment for people who sweat too much for comfort in their underarms. However, most people get it on the face; that is the most popular placement.

Is There Anything I Shouldn't Do With Botox?

There really isn't anything that you shouldn't do with Botox. If you are getting it done by a licensed professional you can be assured that you are getting the right dosage. It is important to note that when you do get it injected, there will be limited mobility in that area. So if you get it around your mouth, it could be hard to drink out of a straw and have mobility with your lips. This is something to consider.

These are just some things to know about Botox.
