Shedding the Stigma Surrounding Cosmetic Surgery

I'm on a personal mission to get rid of the stigma that still surrounds cosmetic surgery in many regions. Why am I on this mission? A small surgery changed my life, and I have never regretted it. I was a very shy child with little confidence due to my protruding ears. It sounds like such a small problem to many people, but it affected me and my self esteem greatly. I saved up in high school while working a part-time job, and as soon as I could afford it, I got my parents to agree to let me have my ears "pinned back" when I was 16. My confidence skyrocketed immediately, and I finally began enjoying life for the first time. I want to help others facing similar problems know that they are not alone, and I hope I can touch many lives with my new blog!

3 Tips For A Breast Augmentation That Looks & Feels Natural

Blog

If you plan to obtain a breast augmentation surgery and would like your new breasts to look as natural as possible, then you may wonder how you can ensure a natural-looking final result. While one way to help breast implants appear natural looking is to choose an implant size that is right for your body shape and type, there are additional ways to increase the chance that your implants will look and feel like natural breasts.

Read on to learn three tips for a breast augmentation that looks and feels natural.

1. Opt for Silicone over Saline-filled Implants

While both silicone and saline implants can appear natural, many women who have tried both implant types feel that silicone implants tend to look and feel more natural than saline-filled implants. While both saline and silicone implants have a silicone outer shell, silicone implants are filled with silicone gel and saline implants are instead filled with sterile saltwater. This soft silicone gel feels more like natural breast tissue than saline water does.

In addition, the shell of a saline implant can fold temporarily as a woman moves, potentially leading to the appearance of wrinkles or ripples in the breast skin as a woman moves around. A silicone-filled implant, on the other hand, tends to resist this folding and wrinkling as the implant moves around inside of the breast.

2. Choose Implant Placement Wisely

Breast implants can be placed either over the pectoral muscle, which is called subglandular placement, or under the pectoral muscle, which is called submuscular placement. The placement that will lead to the most natural breast implant results for you is based on several factors.

While subglandular placement can provide a natural-looking result if you already have plenty of natural breast tissue, this placement can make any implant rippling or wrinkling more obvious if you currently have little natural breast tissue to cover the implant.

Typically, submuscular placement provides a more natural-looking breast augmentation result. When breast implants are placed under the pectoral muscle, any implant shell wrinkling that occurs is hidden underneath this muscle. In addition, this placement leads to the implant developing a natural-looking slope after placement, unlike implants placed over the pectoral muscle that tend to maintain their unnatural, round appearance.

3. Consider Teardrop-Shaped Implants

There are two main breast implant shapes: round implants and teardrop, or anatomical, implants.

You can increase the chance that your breasts will appear more natural by choosing teardrop-shaped implants. These implants are fuller at the bottom than they are the top, just like natural breasts typically are, while round breast implants are shaped like spheres. Since an anatomical implant must stay in position and not rotate as a woman moves around to maintain their natural appearance, the shell of these implants is typically textured to help anchor the implant in place to reduce implant movement.

Follow these three tips if you want to obtain a breast augmentation result that looks and feels like natural breasts.
