Shedding the Stigma Surrounding Cosmetic Surgery

I'm on a personal mission to get rid of the stigma that still surrounds cosmetic surgery in many regions. Why am I on this mission? A small surgery changed my life, and I have never regretted it. I was a very shy child with little confidence due to my protruding ears. It sounds like such a small problem to many people, but it affected me and my self esteem greatly. I saved up in high school while working a part-time job, and as soon as I could afford it, I got my parents to agree to let me have my ears "pinned back" when I was 16. My confidence skyrocketed immediately, and I finally began enjoying life for the first time. I want to help others facing similar problems know that they are not alone, and I hope I can touch many lives with my new blog!

Benefits, Beauty, And FAQs About The Medical Spa Experience

Blog

Why choose a medical spa over a traditional day spa? You're ready for a day of pampering and relaxation. But you also want more. You want to leave your spa experience with a fresh, youthful glow that lasts longer than 24 hours. Before you book a cosmetic service, take a look at what you need to know about the benefits of a medical spa.

What Is A Medi Spa?

As the name implies, this type of spa offers medical treatments. But this doesn't mean a med spa is a doctor's office or plastic surgery clinic. A medical spa falls somewhere in between a day spa/salon and an outpatient cosmetic healthcare center. While the specific services may vary, many medical spas offer a range of aesthetic treatment options that could include traditional spa facials as well as more invasive injectables, peels, and laser procedures.

Why Should You Choose A Medi Spa?

If you're not sure whether you should book your next cosmetic appointment at a day spa or medical spa, you may want to learn more about the reasons to select the medical option. The benefits of choosing this type of aesthetic healthcare facility include:

  • Types of procedures. Medical spas often offer a wider range of procedures (compared to a traditional day spa). These could include anything from tattoo removal to botulinum toxin injections.

  • The supervision. Medical spa services require medical supervision. This means the spa director or supervisor should have an M.D. (medical doctor) after their name. Doctor-level supervision helps to ensure that you get the highest quality care.

  • The results. A facial gives instant results. But the dewy youthful look you get from this type of treatment may fade quickly. Med spa procedures provide permanent or semi-permanent results that you won't have to repeat daily, weekly, or even monthly.

Even though a med spa offers medical types of treatments, this type of facility isn't a plastic surgeon's office. If you want an invasive procedure, such as a facelift, tummy tuck, or breast augmentation, you will need a cosmetic surgeon—and not a spa clinician.

Is A Med Spa A Better Choice Than A Doctor's Office?

You can get botulinum therapy, dermal fillers, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, laser hair removal, and other common spa services at some dermatologists' or cosmetic surgeons' offices. If you're wondering why you should choose a medical spa over a doctor's office, think about the second part of the name.

Like a day spa, a medical spa offers a calming atmosphere. If you want to relax as you refresh and rejuvenate your appearance, a medical spa provides the tranquil environment you need.
